The NQ series is Tombow's long-running answer to what a general-purpose colored pencil should be: vivid enough for artwork, smooth enough for sustained use, and packaged well enough to live on a desk or shelf without looking out of place.

The oil-based pigment formula was developed with layering in mind. Higher adhesion means successive colors grip the previous layer rather than skipping over it, which expands the tonal range you can build from a fixed set. The smooth core keeps strokes uninterrupted, reducing the start-stop texture that can fragment a gradation.

The yellow tin case is as much a part of the NQ identity as the pencils themselves. The PUSH-button latch on the right side opens the lid cleanly, and pencils can be lifted out by pressing gently on the sharpened end, so you're not digging for individual colors. The clean logo lettering on each barrel keeps the grip area uncluttered.
