Behind the Design

The Emboss Pochi series starts from a simple idea: the physical experience of holding an envelope matters. Most pochi bags prioritize print design, but TAISEI chose to lead with paper feel, selecting a particularly soft stock and applying an emboss process that adds a subtle raised texture across the surface.

The illustrations are secondary to this tactile quality. Each design, including the traditional Flower Knot (Hanakusubi) and the Guardian Lion Dog (Komainu), was chosen because it suits the softness of the paper rather than competing with it. The result is an envelope that reads as considered and celebratory without relying on bold color or complex printing.

Sold in packs of three identical envelopes, the format is practical for occasions where you need to give multiple recipients the same envelope, or simply want extras on hand.

A small gift envelope made with unusually soft, embossed paper that gives both the giver and receiver a sense of occasion. The texture comes from the paper itself, not a coating, and the illustrations are chosen to complement the paper's character rather than overpower it.
