About Postcard
“Summer Blues” evokes the wistful nostalgia that comes with the end of the season. In the background, I drew morning glories, which bloom during the warmer months in Japan. The flower unfurls with dawn and by evening, it shrivels up; its ephemeral beauty being a reminder of the impermanence of things.
For the style, I was inspired by the work of Japanese artist and designer Junichi Nakahara, known as the predecessor of the “shojo manga eye.” Drawing ladies in kimono is a challenge for me, but I enjoy the work of matching and combining different colors and patterns together.
I want to create a postcard for each season of the year, and so far, I’ve completed the winter and summer ones. Through these illustrations, I want to highlight lesser-known aspects of Japanese culture.
