About Postcard

At eight years old, I was sent to a 365-acre boarding school in a secluded valley, oceans away from home, in an environment I often describe as Hogwarts meets Tarzan. Though the first weeks were marked by homesickness, a turning point came during a group hike up the hill depicted here. That day, I felt a sense of belonging for the first time: to my classmates, to the valley, and to a new chapter of life. With no light pollution, thousands of stars lit up the valley most nights, and I wanted to capture that beauty in this postcard. It felt especially fitting to capture this hill and memorable night sky, and I decided to use Procreate, making it my very first attempt at digital art.

The dog in this piece, Limpet, was a beloved figure at the school. A stray adopted by the community, he had three functional legs and one permanently limp, yet he never failed to join us on every hike. Watching him hop joyfully over rocks was profoundly inspiring, a reminder of the type of resilience that I strive to carry into my own life to this day. Limpet has since passed away, but a statue now stands on the school campus to honor him.
