About Postcard
“Love Me at My Worst” was inspired by the melancholy of autumn and the fox spirits of Japanese folklore, which embody the duality of nature. They can be depicted as either benevolent protectors against evil, or as mischievous tricksters that bring chaos.
This duality is the heart of my painting, hence the title. The fox represents the multi-faceted nature of human emotion, while the woman holds it gently in an act of compassion and self-acceptance. Together, they illustrate how peace and chaos can coexist within us. The message I wanted to get across with this piece is that even in our lowest moments and when our guard is up, we are worthy of patience, kindness, and understanding, and that we should be the first to afford that to ourselves.
