The Kiwami LR is part of Kyoei Plastic's Kiwami series, a line built around the idea that a ruler should be a precision instrument first. The full-length scale accuracy of ±20μ or less is achieved through a proprietary laser-engraving process where each graduation is cut individually. For context, 20μ is roughly one-ninth the thickness of a human hair.

The "LR" designation refers to the ambidextrous design. The ruler is symmetrical, so rotating it switches the reference edge from left to right, letting both left- and right-handed users measure from a clean edge without awkward hand positioning.

The reverse taper is a detail that solves a common frustration: when drawing lines with a pen against a ruler, capillary action pulls ink under the edge and smears the paper. By angling the underside so the edge lifts slightly off the surface, the Kiwami LR keeps ink away from the contact zone. The aluminum body has a low thermal expansion rate, so the scale stays accurate across typical working temperatures, and the opaque finish blocks underlying text from bleeding through when reading tables or graphs.
