Behind the Design

Sakura Crepas introduced oil pastels to Japan in the early Showa era, and the original Crepas packaging became a familiar sight in classrooms and homes across the country. Over the decades, the design evolved, and the early box gradually faded from memory.

This reprint edition was created to bring that original packaging back, recreating the look, shape, and dimensions of the early Showa Crepas box as faithfully as possible. The crayon formula itself is identical to the current LP series, so performance is unchanged. What this edition restores is the visual and tactile experience of picking up a box of Crepas the way people did generations ago. It appeals equally as a functional set of 16 crayons and as a collectible piece of Japanese stationery history.
