The Futomaki series was designed around one observation: standard crayons are built for older children, not toddlers. A small child gripping a regular crayon applies uneven pressure, snapping the barrel or losing control of the stroke. Futomaki crayons are sized and proportioned to fit a toddler's fingers, giving them a more stable hold from the start.

The Futofuto variant pushes this further for the youngest users. By making the body even shorter and thicker, the crayon can absorb the kind of full-force, fist-grip drawing that toddlers naturally use, without breaking. The barrel geometry also makes it harder to roll off a table.

The New Crepas Kakugata type takes a different approach: a square cross-section that prevents rolling entirely, paired with a softer, smoother formula and no paper wrapping to peel. The square format means a child can set it down and pick it back up without it sliding away, and the unwrapped body means the full crayon surface can be used for broad strokes as well as line work.
