The idea behind this pad is simple: a written message that does something when it arrives. Fold the sheet in half and a die-cut illustration rises up and holds itself upright, turning an ordinary note into a small object on someone's desk.

Getting there required Marumo Printing's in-house die-cut technology, which handles the intricate geometries of rare succulent plants: the narrow trunk and tuft of Pachypodium Gracilius, the tortoise-shell base of Dioscorea Elephantipes, the serrated rosette of Agave. These are not simple silhouettes. The cuts follow fine contours that would tear or collapse on standard memo paper.

The choice of b7 Natural paper (formerly Cosmo Air Light) addresses the other half of the problem. Pop-up mechanics only work if the sheet holds its fold cleanly, and writing quality matters because these are message pads first. b7 Natural has a gentle off-white tone, accepts fountain pen and ballpoint ink without bleed-through, and has enough body to support the standing structure once folded.
