Behind the Design

KYOEI PLASTIC developed the MIERRE directly from customer complaints about existing card loupes: too slow to retrieve, embarrassing to use in public, too bulky to carry daily, and easy to misplace. The response was a full-spec loupe built to the standard credit-card footprint (85 × 55 mm) so it slots into any card slot or pocket without adding noticeable bulk.

The lens is a thin Fresnel design, which breaks the magnifying surface into concentric ridges rather than a thick curved lens. This keeps thickness to 0.4 mm while maintaining 3.5x magnification with minimal distortion, a spec more commonly found in dedicated professional loupes. A slim PVC slip case protects the lens surface from scratches during carry. The name MIERRE is a nod to the French word for "to see," grounding the design in the simple act of reading clearly whenever you need to.
