Behind the Design

ICHIKUDO Printing sits in Tsukiji, the Tokyo district still synonymous with fresh seafood long after the old wholesale market relocated. That neighborhood identity is the direct starting point for this calendar: each of the 12 monthly sheets features a different seafood onigiri, chosen to reflect the season it represents.

The production method matches the care taken with the subject matter. Each sheet goes through screen printing, a process that builds ink layer by layer and produces the kind of tactile, slightly raised finish that offset or digital printing cannot replicate. The result is a calendar that reads more like a small art object than a scheduling tool, with the paper case acting as both packaging and a compact display stand.
