Behind the Design

The MONO eraser has been a staple of Japanese stationery since Tombow introduced it in 1969, recognized by its iconic blue, white, and black stripe sleeve. The MONO Eraser Black is a single-axis redesign of that classic: swap the white body for black PVC resin, and two problems are solved at once.

White erasers pick up graphite and hand oils visibly over time, making a well-used eraser look worn. A black body hides that accumulation, so the eraser looks clean throughout its life. The secondary benefit emerged from the same decision: eraser debris, typically a light grey-white, becomes easy to spot against dark paper surroundings and easy to sweep away cleanly from your workspace.

Erasing performance and feel are identical to the standard MONO, so this is not a compromise for aesthetics. The sleeve is made from 100% recycled paper, and the three-stripe graphic is updated with glossy silver ink to complement the black body.

The MONO Eraser Black swaps the classic white body for black, so the eraser itself stays looking clean in use. A practical twist: debris that lands on your paper shows up clearly against the dark eraser, making it easy to brush away.
