The ippo! series by Tombow is designed around the needs of younger students, particularly those in the first few grades of elementary school. Children at this stage typically use softer, darker pencils (2B and 4B are standard in Japanese schools) that leave heavy graphite deposits on paper.

The eraser formula targets those richer deposits without requiring excessive pressure, which helps kids avoid tearing thin notebook paper. The sleeve's embossed concave lines address a separate but equally practical problem: small hands, especially when pressing down to erase, tend to lose grip on smooth surfaces. The patterned sleeve gives fingers something to hold onto so the eraser moves where it's aimed rather than slipping sideways.
