Behind the Design

The KOKUYO ME line was designed around the idea that everyday tools should feel personal rather than purely functional. The mechanical pencil in this series addresses a common complaint: thin leads that snap under normal writing pressure. By moving to a 0.7mm lead, KOKUYO gives the pencil a writing feel closer to a wooden pencil than a typical mechanical one.

The grip is one of the more considered details here. The front section is hexagonal to keep the pencil from rotating and to give three fingers a stable surface to press against. The rear section rounds off so the palm rests comfortably without any edges pressing in during longer writing sessions. The pipe tip retracts fully for storage, removing the pointed metal tip that can snag pockets or puncture pen cases.

The KOKUYO ME mechanical pencil uses a thick 0.7mm lead that resists breaking and writes with a soft, pencil-like feel. The hexagonal rubber grip shifts from angular at the front for control to round at the back for comfort, and the slim metal tip keeps your view of the page clear.
