Behind the Design

DAIGO designed this mini memo around a simple frustration: small notebooks are easy to carry, but a writing instrument rarely is. By engineering a pencil directly into the spine, the notebook becomes a self-contained kit that fits in a palm or a pocket without extra thought.

The illustrations were created to reflect aspects of Japanese culture that resonate with visitors and locals alike. Sumo wrestlers, bowls of ramen, sushi, cherry blossoms, and Mt. Fuji are rendered as compact, graphic cover art with foil stamping added for a tactile finish that lifts the covers beyond a standard souvenir item.

Inside, the 5mm grid is printed in pink, a choice that keeps ruled lines visible without competing with pencil marks, making handwritten notes easy to scan. The result is a notebook that works as both a functional daily carry and a considered keepsake.
