OLFA's 156B addresses this directly: the blade is fully shrouded at rest and only extends when the lever grip is actively squeezed. Release your hand and the blade retracts immediately. A lock button provides a secondary layer of control, preventing any accidental blade exposure even if the grip is bumped.

The L-Type designation refers to the grip form, which is sized for a fuller hand hold and better leverage through dense or layered materials. The blade assembly is reversible, so left-handed users can reconfigure the cutter without any tools by simply flipping the components. The 45mm blade diameter is OLFA's standard for fabric-weight cutting, and the same blade mount accepts separately sold pinking and wave blades, expanding the cutter from straight cuts into decorative and fray-resistant edging.
