Most unboxing injuries are not caused by carelessness. They happen because a standard box cutter keeps its blade exposed after the cut ends, and the hand keeps moving. OLFA designed the Safety Cutter Compact to remove that window of risk entirely: a spring mechanism retracts the blade the instant forward pressure stops, so the blade is never left exposed between cuts.

The rounded, pebble-like body was shaped around hands on the smaller side, with minimal protrusions so the cutter drops cleanly into a tool pouch rather than snagging on other items. A cord attachment hole at the rear lets warehouse and retail workers tether it to a belt or bag, reducing the chance of dropping it in a busy environment. The blade is reversible front-to-back and fully replaceable (XB243), so the body stays in use well beyond the first blade's life.
