Most cutter knives are designed with adult hands and adult risk tolerance in mind. The Kitter started from a different question: what would a cutter look like if minimizing the chance of injury was the primary constraint, not an afterthought?

OLFA's answer was to encase the blade in plastic as completely as possible, exposing only the minimum cutting edge needed for the tool to function. This applies both during use and during blade replacement, which is typically the moment when most cutter-related injuries happen. With the Kitter, the entire blade assembly stays sheathed in plastic throughout the swap process. The only step that requires care is the very first use, when the initial blade segment must be snapped off.

The body is rounded and lightweight to fit smaller hands, and flipping the blade direction converts it to left-handed use without any additional parts. The included blade snapper clips onto the body and doubles as a stand, so the cutter stays upright on a desk instead of rolling away. Released in blister pack format in August 2020 with clearer usage imagery, the Kitter is the product OLFA entered into the 2018 Japan Stationery Awards, where it took the Grand Prix in the Functional Category.
