Craypas is a portmanteau of "crayon" and "pastel," and the original formula has been a fixture in Japanese art education since SAKURA introduced it decades ago. The classic round stick works well for broad coverage, but artists and students kept running into a limitation: controlling line width with a round stick means rotating it constantly and managing tip wear.

The New Crepas Square Shape addresses this directly by changing the geometry. The square cross-section creates distinct corners for fine lines, flat faces for wide strokes, and enough contact area for solid fill work. No tip sharpening, no rotating. The formula itself carries forward everything from the original Craypas: oil-based pigment that goes down smoothly, blends easily under pressure, and layers without fighting itself. The opaque finish means colors hold up on tinted or dark paper, not just white stock.
