From Kids to Adults
In 1982, Pentel released the Prismate, an eight-color lead pencil designed for children. Unexpectedly, adults quickly began adopting it for work.
Consolidating eight writing and drafting options into a single barrel solved two problems at once: it eliminated bulky pencil cases and removed the hassle of switching tools mid-task. After Pentel redesigned the body for professionals and added non-copy leads, the multi-pencil established itself as a staple in Japanese offices for decades.
